Undergraduate Guide to
Upper-Division General Education
All students are required to take one of the options listed below to complete their Upper Division General Education Requirements.
Option A: Any University-approved minor outside the College of Business, a second degree, or a second major outside the College of Business (students double majoring or minoring in Economics can also use this to satisfy the requirement).
Option B: Complete a cluster listed below.
Administrative Leadership,
Impacts of Technology, or
World Cultures: Values and Visions
Option C: BSBA majors adding a minor or second major in the College of Business: You must also take 6 hours of 200-400 level courses outside the Collge of Business.
What are clusters? Three courses in a focus area at the upper-level (300+). There are eleven "clusters" or focus areas available. Normally, the cluster requires two courses outside of your normal business curriculum. The check-off spaces for these two courses are listed under "Upper-level General Education-Clusters" in your major curriculum sheet.
What are the main rules for completing a cluster? You choose three(3) courses from the list of the particular cluster you have selected. Here are the rules for choosing courses:
- You may not mix and match courses from different clusters. Choose one cluster and select from courses in that cluster only.
- One of the three courses can used to fulfill your business major. There are only three clusters that give you that opportunity. These threee clusters (Administrative Leadership, Impacts of Technology, and World Cultures: Values and Visions) allow you to take only two additional courses. These courses are described in more detail below.
- A limited amount of substitution can be done with prior approval on an emergency basis.
- Conisder scheduling and availability of classes closely.
