Ph.D. Business Administration-Admissions

A limited number of exceptionally qualified students are admitted to the program each year. An applicant is expected to hold an MBA degree, or equivalent, from an accredited business program. Quantitative guidelines for admission include a 3.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for all prior graduate work and a GMAT score of 600 or higher, taken within the past five years.

Students wishing to apply to the Ph.D. program must complete the Old Dominion University graduate application form. Domestic students will find the application online, click here. International students will also find an online application, click here. Admission decisions are made by the Ph.D. Director based on the recommendations of graduate faculty in the applicant's field of specialization after a comprehensive examination of the applicant's admission's packet. Applicants must specify an intended field of specialization on their application. We offer specializations in Finance, Information Technology,  Marketing, and Strategic Management. If you are uncertain about your area of specialization we recommend that you research your options and apply once you have determined an area of specialization that fits your interests and goals.

The application and following credentials are submitted directly to the Office of Admissions no later than April 1st for enrollment the following fall term:

·   official copies of transcripts from all institutions of higher education attended,

·   official scores on the Graduate Management Admission Test,

·   three letters of recommendation (suggested: two academic and one professional)
·   goals statement-approximately 2-3 pages, on how the completion of this doctoral program will assist in achieving personal and professional career goals,
·   concise professional and/or academic resume

If the Ph.D. applicant is approved for admission, he/she is officially admitted. The Ph.D. director of Business Administration notifies both the student and the Office of Admissions. This typically occurs in the month of April.
