John B. Ford joined the department of Business
Administration in 1985. He teaches Ph.D. seminars
in the History of Marketing Thought, International
Marketing Theory and Marketing Strategy along with
M.B.A. courses in the Marketing of Services and
Marketing Strategy. His research examines cross-cultural
advertising, consumer perceptions and their impact
upon purchase behavior and marketing research issues
in a cross-cultural context.
Professor Ford received his Ph.D. from the University
of Georgia in 1985, his M.B.A. from the University
of Georgia in 1983 and his B.B.A. from Yale University
in 1971. Before his doctoral studies, Dr. Ford was
an International Sales Manager, Stock Broker, Executive
Recruiter, and Management Consultant specializing
in mergers and acquisitions
Dr. John B. Ford is a Professor of Marketing and
International Business in the College of Business
and Public Administration at Old Dominion University
in Norfolk, Virginia. He specializes in international
marketing strategic issues, and his specific interests
in research include cross-cultural advertising,
consumer perceptions and their impact upon purchase
behavior and marketing research issues in a cross-cultural
context. He often makes presentations to civic groups
on the importance of cultural awareness and sensitivity,
dealing with foreign-born employees, and image management,
perceptual mapping and brand consistency. He has
taught at Universities in England, Japan and New
Zealand. He has extensive international experience
in Asia and Europe. His work has been published
in such academic journals as: Journal of the Academy
of Marketing Science, Journal of Advertising, Journal
of Advertising Research, Journal of International
Marketing, International Marketing Review, Industrial
Marketing Management, and Journal of World Business.
Dr. Ford’s interest in international marketing goes
back to his prior experience as an International
Sales Manager. He also worked as a merger/acquisition
specialist and as an executive recruiter for a consulting
company based in Detroit, Michigan.
