D. Brian McNatt, Assistant Professor of Management, received his Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from the University of Iowa in 2000. He also holds MAcc--Information Systems Consulting (1989) and B.S. (1986) degrees in accounting from Brigham Young University.
Dr. McNatt joined the business faculty of Old Dominion University in 2005. Previously he was a faculty member of the Terry College at the University of Georgia. He has taught courses in leadership skill development, organizational behavior, and management; and has been involved in executive MBA coaching. He has been recognized for his excellence in teaching having received several outstanding teaching awards including being named as a UGA Lilly Teaching Fellow. Prior to obtaining his Ph.D., Dr. McNatt worked as a CPA for KPMG Peat Marwick in external financial auditing, as well as in industry.
Dr. McNatt's primary area of research examines the effects of expectations broadly defined, such as self-fulfilling prophecies, belief perseverance, reputation, Pygmalion effect, and self-efficacy, and their impact on judgments, motivation, and performance. He is the author of top-selling corporate training materials on the Pygmalion effect. In addition, his work has been presented at national conferences and appeared in journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Educational and Psychological Measurement, and Personnel Psychology.
Dr. McNatt has served on editorial review boards, as a journal reviewer, and is a member of the Academy of Management and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
