Professor Spurrier joined the Department of Accounting in 1990. He teaches the introductory MBA accounting course, Advanced Accounting, Intermediate Accounting and Principles of Accounting. He is also race director for the Department of Accounting 5K foot race held annually in September.

Professor Spurrier received his MBA and BBA from the University of Hawaii. He is a Certified Public Accountant and previously worked for KPMG in the attestation services division of their Norfolk office for five years, where he specialized in the retail, construction, and health care industries. He also served as a manager for three years in KPMG's executive Office of Professional Practice in New York City. In addition, from 1981 to 1986 he was the Chief Financial Officer for Haynes Furniture Company, a multi-million dollar regional retail furniture store.
