Competitions and Awards for Teachers and Students

  • STOCK MARKET GAME - For Grades 4-12.  The 10-week simulation begins on September 28, 2009.  Take advantage of additional training without leaving home with our new SMG Webinars. To register and for more information:   http://www.vcee.org/programs-awards/view/4

  • ECONOMICS CHALLENGE - For Middle and High School students.  Quiz bowl style competition with separate categories for economics classes and non-economics classes. You don't have to be teaching a traditional economics class to have your students participate!  Open to government, business, marketing, and any classes with economics content.  Go to www.econchallenge.org  for all the information you need and to register your teams!  Registration beings on January 1, 2010.

  • COLOR THE CONCEPTS -The Virginia Council on Economic Education is sponsoring a SOL economics poster contest for Virginia students grades K - 8.  The 12 winning entries will be used to create posters that will be distributed across the state. Please call/email the ODU Center for the complete set of rules. Visit the VCEE website for an entry form and to see past winners. Attend the Bulletin Board Economics workshop on September 30, 2009 for a free copy of the 2009 posters.  http://www.vcee.org/programs-awards/view/1   The deadline for entries is April 30, 2010. 

VIRGINIA COUNCIL ON ECONOMIC EDUCATION AWARDS

  • The Virginia Council on Economic Education (VCEE) annually recognizes and rewards teachers who demonstrate outstanding creativity and commitment to the instruction of economics. Outstanding Economics Lesson Plan

This award recognizes teachers who create an outstanding original single lesson plan that increases economic understanding. The lesson is of a short duration, typically taking three days or less to complete.

 

Outstanding Economics Unit/Project Plan

This award recognizes teachers who create an outstanding original unit or project that increases economic understanding. The unit or project may take place over an entire semester or grading period and typically consists of a number of lessons and a culminating activity.

 

The Outstanding Economic Educator

This award recognizes teachers who have a sustained history of commitment and contribution to economic education. An Outstanding Economics Educator will be selected from each of the Centers and will receive $100. One of those teachers will be selected as Virginia's Outstanding Economic Educator and will be awarded $1,000.
