Letter from the Director

Welcome to the website for Old Dominion University's MBA Program. The MBA at Old Dominion University is fully accredited by the AACSB International (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business). This represents the highest level of business school accreditation.

Designed to provide a distinctive educational experience for both part-time and full-time students with the flexibility to meet the unique needs of a broad student population. Our population includes students from Virginia and many other states throughout the US , as well as international students from twenty-one countries.

Among the many unique opportunities is the flexibility students have to design a program that meets individual needs. The 18 credit hours of electives may be used to gain greater depth in a particular field by choosing a concentration or to design a general program that does the most to fulfill your goals and aspirations.

Twelve one-credit hour modules have been designed on topics of general interest to all managers. Students choose at least three. Among these are: effective business writing, business plan development, business ethics, effective leadership, business in global cultures, creative thinking, venture capital, and employment laws and regulations. Most of these modules are taught by successful local practitioners.

Integral to any graduate experience is the opportunity to network with current students and alumni. We have an active student association, the MBA Association. The MBAA hosts monthly speakers, socials, as well as an annual dinner. Guest speakers at the dinners have included: Macon Brock, Jr., CEO of Dollar Tree Stores; Bruce Bradley, President of Landmark Communications; and Alan Lindauer, CEO of Waterside Capital.

The College also presents the monthly Economics Club of Hampton Roads luncheons. The luncheons feature a speaker whose presentation is rebroadcast on the local Cox affiliate station. Guest speakers have included John Bogle, founder of Vanguard Funds; Michael Mandel, chief economist of Business Week; Gary Becker, Nobel laureate in economics at the University of Chicago; and Burton Malkiel, author of "A Random Walk Down Wall Street" and professor at Princeton University. MBA students and alumni are invited to attend.

I hope you find our program innovative and exciting. As a faculty, we pride ourselves on accessibility. If you have any additional questions, please contact me at MBAInfo@ODU.edu.

Thank you, I look forward to the opportunity to meet you and work with you as a student.

Sincerely,

Bruce L. Rubin, Ph.D.
