Examines the international business of shipping, commercial processes, maritime-related organizations, shipbuilding and repair, ship types and fleets, and commodity movements (3 credits).
Port 612 > Port Operations and Management
Covers roles, functions and types of international terminals and ports, including operation and design of general and specialized cargo-handling facilities including port authorities and management, operational structures, dock labor; port, shipper and cargo-handling organizations (3 credits).
Port 613 > International Maritime and Admiralty Law
International Law of the Sea, maritime jurisdiction and regulation of shipping, carriage of goods by sea, marine insurance, salvage, marine environmental law, safety at sea and the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (3 credits).
Port 614 > Port Planning and Economics
Port planning and design processes, service versus profit, port investment, revenue and tariff, micro-economic models for terminal operations and transportation systems, market forecasting, technological, environmental and societal change (3 credits).
Econ 402/502 > Transportation Economics
A survey of the transportation system in the United States including its development,pricing, and regulation. Special attention is given to railroads, highways, pipeline, water and air transportation; and the roles that these modes of transportation play in economic development (3 credits).
Enma 613 > Logistics and Supply Chain Management
Management systems for distribution, materials handling, inventory control, transportation planning, and facilities location and analysis. Special emphasis on logistics information systems and development of logistics strategy (3 credits).
Port 668 > Directed Research/Independent Study or Port Internship
Practical field experience and on-site exposure to international maritime, ports and logistics-related challenges. May be a supervised investigation of a specific problem area identified as potentially productive for research by members of the port authority or administration, and/or satisfactory completion of a working internship within the port-related arena for three months (3 credits).
Port 695> Selected Topics in Maritime and Port Management
The advance study of selected topics is not offered on a regular basis. Prerequisites: Port 611 or Port 612 (3 credits).
